At the Roving Community Health Initiative, we are committed to improving access to care for marginalized communities in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco, focusing primarily on the unhoused and marginally housed populations.
RCHI serves people where they live, whether it’s on the streets, in tents, encampments, or in temporary shelters. We bring healthcare directly to individuals through a combination of pop-up clinics and roving teams. This approach ensures that care reaches people who may be unable to visit a traditional clinic due to physical, financial, or social barriers. Our work is rooted in addressing the unique needs of individuals who are often overlooked by healthcare systems.
Our patients live in a variety of environments, including on the streets, in tents, encampments, community centers, shelters, residential treatment programs or single-room occupancy hotels. Many face compounding challenges such as chronic health conditions, substance use disorders, mental health issues, and the trauma associated with unstable housing.
Through collaboration with community partners, RCHI tailors our services to meet the diverse and urgent needs of our patients. Our care is aimed at addressing immediate health concerns while also working to improve long-term well-being. By delivering care directly to the places where people are, we are able to build trust, provide essential services, and ensure that our patients feel seen, heard, and supported.
We recognize that healthcare is not one-size-fits-all, and we are dedicated to providing compassionate, respectful, and accessible care to all, regardless of housing status. Our mission is to provide equitable access by disadvantaged communities to concordant health care, free of bias, judgment, and discrimination.
