UCSF Staff
The Roving Community Health Initiative is a team of UCSF clinicians (RN, NP, PA) that works alongside community organizations and volunteers to provide vaccinations, wound care and harm reduction primarily in the Tenderloin and South of Market. Most of our work is done on "roving teams" serving our unhoused and marginally housed community members.
Shifts require walking/ standing for approximately 4 hours in the elements. Some days are hot, others icy cold and always unpredictable. We cancel if it is raining but have been known to carry on through light drizzle.
Shifts are paid but voluntary and on top of your regular position at UCSF. Shifts are 5 hours paid after a 30-minute break is deducted. RCHI covers your time (including OT when applicable), so there is no cost to your home department.
The first hour of each shift includes prep and orientation for newcomers. Clinicians go out in pairs to work together and support each other. Newcomers are paired with somebody with experience.
To sign up for shifts, email [email protected] your availability and proof of manager approval, along with your cell phone and employee ID number. Manager approval is necessary to pick up shifts and shifts should not interfere with your home department schedule.
